Öland is one of the large islands in the Baltic Sea and is known for its special nature, rich bird life, lots of sunshine and full of historical imprints. From 1 May to 25 September, we invite you to a unique cycling experience in Southern Öland Farming Landscape World Heritage Site with some of Öland's most historically interesting places. You cycle through a more than 2000-year-old cultural and agricultural landscape and always have a view of either the sea or the large Alvaret, known for its unique flora. On the way you will visit burial grounds and ancient castles from Öland's Golden Age - the Iron Age and take part in an exclusive guided tour of Sandby Castle, which was subjected to a brutal massacre about 1,500 years ago.

Day plan
Day 1
Arrival in the historically interesting city squid which was part of the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages before the Kalmar Union was formed in 1397. Here you can visit the magnificent the castle which had its heyday under King Gustav Vasa, and stroll around the 17th-century city centre, which is still partly surrounded by a ring wall. You stay at one of Kalmar's best hotels where you are also served a 3-course dinner in the evening
Day 2
There is time to continue exploring Kalmar before travelling on to Öland, either by bus over the 6 km long Öland Bridge or by the Dessi bicycle ferry. Arrival at Hotel Magasin1 in Mörbylånga with check-in from 2 p.m. If you arrive early, you have the opportunity to stroll around Mörbylånga's cosy neighbourhood, take a dip or enjoy freshly baked buns and cakes at Café Söderbönor. You can also soften your body for tomorrow's bike ride in the hotel's newly built relaxation centre with sauna, seating areas for relaxation and an outdoor whirlpool. Can be booked at reception, or notified in advance.
At 18.30 you will get an introduction to the history of Öland at Ölands Cykeluthyrning which is located right next to the hotel. Then you get your bikes out, which we set up according to your wishes. You round off the evening with a three-course dinner with local ingredients at Magasin1 while looking out over the sunset in Kalmarsund.
Day 3 (30-40 km)
You start cycling south, either along beautiful coastal roads or up on the edge of the countryside where you have the opportunity to visit Bårby Borg and Gettlinge burial ground, which is one of the largest on Öland. On this stage you can also stop at the bird and seal sanctuary Eckelsudde, with good chances of seeing a seal colony. After 20-30 km you turn east and cycle across the wide open Alvaret. Just before you cross over to the eastern side, you can take a detour to Treby castleexcavated in 2024, after which a new 3-course menu and cosy beds await you at the picturesque Gammalsbygårdens Gästgiveri. Wine lovers should take the opportunity to savour something good from the wine cellar. However, this is not included in the package.
Day 4 (30-45 km)
On day three you will travel around South Iceland. Here you will find, among other things, the famous Eketorp Castle, Sweden's only reconstructed ancient castle, spectacular Charles X Gustav's wall and Öland's largest burial ground. At the magical Södra Udden with its large pastures for sheep, cows and deer, you will find one of Europe's best bird locations and Sweden's highest lighthouse Long John. South of Södra Möckleby you can experience remnants of the town's 300-year-old stone industry, including the ruins of a Alunbruk and several spectacular limestone quarries. Return to Gammalsbygården for another good night's sleep and tasty dinner.
Day 5 (50-60 km)
Today you follow the east coast northwards, passing The nature shop in Stenåsa, which has Sweden's largest range of binoculars and other nature-related products. After 30 km you will reach the famous Sandby Borg where a brutal massacre took place around 1,500 years ago. Here you get an exclusive guided tour of the castle and its dark secrets about 1500 years ago. here you can watch a documentary on the history of the castle.
Then you turn west and cross Öland again, this time via winding small roads through Midland forest, one of Europe's largest continuous deciduous forests. At the edge of the forest you will find the Iron Age village Gamla Skogsby which is currently being excavated and boasts a 55-metre-long nave. On the fourth night you will sleep at Hotel Skansen in Färjestaden and are also treated to a 3-course dinner. An evening walk in the harbour with a view of the Öland Bridge at sunset is recommended.
Day 6 (20-30 km)
From Färjestaden to Mörbylånga there is a nice cycle path for those who want to take the straight track. On the way you can stop at one of Sweden's most famous rune stones, Karlevi stones. There is also the possibility to take the small roads through the beautiful Vickleby nature reserve and the . Beijer Harbour with its fine bird sanctuary. Vickleby, where the famous craft school Capella farm and "Sweden's most beautiful village street" is well worth a detour. At the latest at 18:30 you return the bikes to us in Mörbylånga.
Pavement and traffic
Most of the tour is on cycle paths and smaller country roads with low-intensity traffic (especially during the low season). At times you can expect to share the road with tractors, motorhomes, cows and sheep. About 5 % of the tour is on gravel roads.

For bookings made before 1 April, a deposit of 20 % is payable first. The remainder of the cost is payable no later than 30 days before departure. For bookings made after 1 April, the full amount is payable within three days of confirmation of the booking.
Booking request
Please send us a booking request using the form below. This is an exclusive cycling package with limited availability so don't wait too long to book. The package can be booked from 1 May to 25 September. After you have sent the enquiry, we will get back to you within three days. You will then receive a payment link in your e-mail, which you must pay within three days for the booking to be valid. The booking request is not binding until the deposit is paid.
Conditions bicycle package
- If cancelled at least 48 hours before the date of arrival, 90 % of the cost will be refunded. In case of later cancellation, no refund will be given.
- If you need assistance on the road, for example with a new bike or if you have suffered a physical injury, we will come to your rescue, usually within an hour and a half, but in exceptional cases up to 5 hours.
- Full insurance of the bike is included for normal use, but not any insurance for clothing or personal injury.

Kalmar is easily reached by direct train from Copenhagen. The train journey from Hamburg to Kalmar takes just over 12 hours. There are both day and night trains. From Kalmar you can take bus 105 to Mörbylånga, which departs once an hour and takes 40 minutes. The bus station is right next to the bike hire and Hotel Magasin 1.
If you come by car, follow the signs for Kalmar, Öland and Mörbylånga. The address is railway street 3. There is free parking on the streets around the bike park
