The island of sun and wind invites you to fantastic experiences on two wheels! On Öland you will find strikingly beautiful nature, rich history, open views, old fishing harbours, lots of local crafts and charming farm shops. Day plan
1 - Arrival on Öland
Arrival at Hotel Magasin 1 in Mörbylånga with check-in from 2 p.m. If you arrive early, you have the opportunity to stroll around Mörbylånga's cosy neighbourhood, take a dip or enjoy freshly baked buns and cakes at Café Söderbönor. There is also the opportunity to soften your body for tomorrow's bike ride in the hotel's newly built relaxation centre with sauna, seating areas for relaxation and an outdoor whirlpool. Can be booked on site at the reception or notified to the hotel in advance. 3-course dinner with local ingredients is served from 17:00.
You pick up your bikes at Ölands Cykeluthyrning which is right next to the hotel, you will find our opening hours here. We adapt the model and correct the settings according to your wishes and inform you about the tour.
2 - Travelling (30-40 km)
From Mörbylånga you cycle south on small roads along the water to Kastlösa. Here you turn east and cycle on the old railway embankment across the large Alvaret until you are greeted by the magnificent view of the Baltic Sea. Here you can take a dip at the charming Sebybadet. Another mile south you will find genuine Gammalsbygårdens Gästgiveri where a well-prepared 3-course dinner and comfortable beds await. Those who appreciate wines should take the opportunity to enjoy something good from the wine cellar. However, this is not included in the package.
3 - Discovery day (35-45 km)
There is much to experience on southernmost Öland. Here you choose where your energy and desire to explore takes you. Visit the famous Eketorp Castle or the magical Södra Udden with its large pastures for sheep, cows and deer. You'll also find one of Europe's best bird watching centres and Sweden's highest lighthouse, Long John. Despite tired bicycle legs, the 198 steps up the lighthouse are well worth the view around the southernmost tip of Öland! In Grönhögen you will find a charming little community with both golf course, ICA shop, café and restaurant. Take a dip in the deep, turquoise limestone quarry if you dare. Return to Gammalsbygården for another good night's sleep and tasty dinner.
4 - On the trail of history (50-60 km)
Today you cycle north along eastern Öland and pass The nature shop in Stenåsa, which has Sweden's largest range of binoculars and other nature-related products. At the Gårby café and farm shop, you can take a much-needed break and enjoy a real gofika. Then follow winding country lanes through Midland forest, which is one of Europe's largest continuous deciduous forests. At the edge of the forest you will find the research station Station Linné, world-famous for its research on insects in particular. On the fourth night you sleep on Hotel Skansen in Färjestaden and are also treated to a 3-course dinner. An evening walk in the harbour with a view of the Öland Bridge at sunset is recommended.
5 - Finish (20-30 km)
There is a nice cycle path from Färjestaden to Mörbylånga. Take the opportunity to admire one of Sweden's most famous rune stones, Karlevi stones. It is possible to take the small roads through the beautiful Vickleby Nature Reserve and the Beijer Harbour with its fine bird sanctuary. Vickleby where the famous craft school Capella farm and "Sweden's most beautiful village street" is well worth a detour. At the latest at 18:30, the bikes are returned to Ölands Cykeluthyrning in Mörbylånga.
Pavement and traffic
The route is mostly on tarmac cycle paths and minor country roads with low-intensity traffic (especially in the off-season). At times you will have to share the road with tractors, motorhomes, cows and sheep. About 10 % are on gravel roads.
